Happy Fathers Day, dude June 20, 2010

Happy Fathers Day to the man behind that infamous nose my daughters both have. For the man who does all the cooking, some of the laundry and a little bit of the dishes. Happy Fathers Day to the guy who tag-teams two crying children when he can, who can change a mean diaper, who plays airplane with Alice til his knees are tired, and then does it a few more times just because Alice said “Please.” To the man who brings dinosaurs and cars into the house but who says (a cute little lie, probably) that he is OK with not having any sons.

To the man who squeezed my hand and nodded when I said “Let’s never do ‘that’ again” on our way home from the hardware store, with both children screaming in the back seat. “That” — wink, wink, big nod toward the back seat.

To the guy who said “it’s no big deal, it’s just a Sunday” when I tried to insist on cleaning up after dinner. The dinner he grilled. “Just hold Violet. You go back to work on Tuesday. Fathers Day is no big deal. Really.”

Really. Happy Fathers Day.
